Pacific Counselor's Message

As counselors at Pacific Middle School, we look forward to serving as advocates during your middle school journey.  Middle school years are full of excitement, frustration, disappointment, growth and hope.  Students are experiencing internal changes, coupled with the challenges of the outside world.  It is now that students begin to discover what the future holds.

Pacific counselors strive to assist students to grow through this challenging stage of life while experiencing three areas of development: Academic, Career and Social. With a comprehensive guidance program, students receive information, support, and experiences to help them become productive and contributing members of society. Together, the teachers, parents, counselors, and community resources provide the most effective support for students.

It is the goal of the Pacific counselors to make each student's school experience a positive one where potential can be realized. Our Developmental Guidance Program offers:

Responsive Services
Addressing the immediate concerns of students.

Guidance Curriculum
Providing contact in a proactive manner through College Class and classroom activities.

Individual Planning
Assisting students in monitoring and understanding their own development in the academic, career, and personal/social arenas.

Professional Contact
Providing establishment and maintenance of professional relationships with students, parents, and the community.

A Message from Lynne Hanby - Prevention Counselor - Highline School District

Hi,

My name is Lynne Hanby and I am one of four Prevention Counselors that have dedicated ourselves to helping your student have a safe, fun and drug free year. I will be offering several programs for the students aimed at helping the student have this kind of year.

I will be offering BRAD (Be Responsible About Drugs) grads again this year. This is a program designed to help students have the information and develop the skills needed to reach their goal of remaining drug free till they graduate. We will have monthly activities for the development of these skills.

I will have a Challenge group aimed at helping students develop the skills needed to gain self control over themselves to help keep a peaceful environment at Pacific. In gaining these skills we hope to help the student develop a positive self-worth.

I am already looking forward to October 24-28 which is Red Ribbon week. We had a very successful week last year and hope to accomplish the same thing this year. I will work with the Leadership class to come up with ideas for theme days based around the celebration of the benefits of a drug free life and we will celebrate of the life of Kiki Comaroria, who gave his life in the war against drugs. I will get to participate in my favorite part of my job as I do class presentation, lunch time activities that all lead up to Red Ribbon week.

I hope to see as many students as possible this year and look forward to having the opportunity to meet you. If you have concerns about any of the programs or have a need to speak to someone with ideas to help your family, please feel free to contact me.

I am at Pacific Middle School on Monday and Friday from 7:30 to 3:00. I can also be reached each day at 800-546-5404 vm 57
