Macy's Day of Caring
This Saturday, March 17, Macy’s is sponsoring a day of caring to
support the Washington state chapter of (COPS) Concerns of
Police Survivors.
As some of you know I am the state chapter secretary and my
father was a Washington State Patrol Trooper killed in the line
of duty. Our organization supports families of Washington law
enforcement survivors with much needed grief and trial
counseling, scholarships, workshops and retreats. All the money
goes directly to our survivors and their families. Due to the
tragic fact that more officers were killed in the line of duty
this past year, we need to raise funds to help send the
surviving families to National Police Week in Washington D.C. in
May. They will be able to attend the conferences, candlelight
vigil, and other support that is provided, including an
opportunity to meet President Bush and to be part of the
national roll call. I have been there twice and feel it is an
important part of recovery and closure.
If you purchase a coupon for $5.00 you will receive a 20%
discount off of regular or sale priced items, plus if you spend
$100 or more you will receive an additional 20% off for each
$100. This offer is only good for March 17 at all Macy’s stores.
I also have blue magnetic car ribbons for sale for $5.00, which
sends your message of support for our law enforcement officers
every day.
If you are interested, please contact me.

Torn by War, Healing Through Hope:
One School’s Effort to Create a Culture of Peace in Their
Community
Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Museum of Flight – Boeing Field
At Aviation High School, 100 sophomores are exploring the legacy
of wars in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and U.S. involvement in
Southeast Asia. The emphasis is on learning about the
experiences of community members and the impact of these events
on their lives. The students are watching, reading and
discussing films and books, and constructing oral histories of
war veterans and refugees. Students have designed a full-scale
museum exhibit that will travel to other schools and
communities. They are also producing a documentary film and a
web site to record their explorations.
This project will culminate in a community event on March 22. At
the event, students will present the oral history archives they
created. A series of museum exhibits designed and constructed by
students will be unveiled. Following will be a discussion panel
of oral history interview volunteers and historical experts.
Refreshments will be served.
Following display at The Museum of Flight, the exhibits will
travel to the Bellevue Art Gallery, the Wing Luke Asian Museum,
and then to a museum in Arizona.
