Governor to Speak about Washington Learns
Governor Chris Gregoire and Joan Bosworth, director of early
learning, will speak on Washington Learns on Tuesday, March 6,
from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor auditorium at the
Central Administration Building for Tacoma Public Schools, 601
S. 8th St., Tacoma.
Washington Learns is Governor Gregoire's initiative to examine
our state's education system—from early learning to K–12 to
higher education—and find ways to improve it.
The Washington Learns committee has released “Washington Learns:
World-Class, Learner Focused, Seamless Education,” the final
report of an 18-month comprehensive study of education in
Washington. The report focuses on five major initiatives as
basic strategies to reform the education system in Washington.
-
Investing in early learning so that children start off
as lifelong learners;
-
Improving math and science teaching so that our citizens
have a competitive edge;
-
Personalizing learning so that every student has the
opportunity to succeed;
-
Offering college and workforce training for everyone;
and
-
Holding the system accountable for results.
All are welcome to attend the March 6 event. Written
questions will be answered as time permit.
The event is funded by the League of Women Voters of
Washington Education Fund. For more information, contact
