Highline Schools Foundation Says
“Thank you!” to Employees of Highline Public Schools
The year 2006 marked the first opportunity all Highline
Public Schools employees had to donate directly to
Highline Schools Foundation as part of the annual employee
giving campaign. Employees have pledged more than $10,000.
“The Foundation is grateful for the trust your generous
gifts imply,” said Executive Director Kathy McCabe.
“We pledge to increase the Foundation’s support of your
work to ‘Educate Every Student and Expect Excellence’.”
With a mission to develop community resources to help
students succeed, Highline Schools Foundation supports
academic achievement, classroom innovation, scholarships,
and the arts in all Highline Public Schools. Thanks to
donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations,
the Foundation has distributed more than $370,000 to date.

WaMu Grants Funds for Professional
Development
Kathy McCabe, executive director of the Highline
Schools Foundation for Excellence, reports the receipt of
a grant from Washington Mutual to expand teacher
professional development. The grant of $5,000 is earmarked
for use in either the pursuit of national certification or
for teachers to receive further professional development
and/or an endorsement in mathematics.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to support your
important work!” notes Washington Mutual Assistant Vice
President Jonathan Macaranas.
Both of these efforts support the district’s focus on
continuous improvement and the Math Matters initiative.
Details on the scholarship application process will be
published when available.
Foundation Adopts School
Classrooms
--$14,500 Donated to Six Highline Public Schools--
In surprise presentations, classrooms in six Highline
Public Schools each received an adoption certificate with
a “no strings attached” one hundred dollar bill from
Highline Schools Foundation. Foundation President Eric Aasness and President-Elect
Sandra Eliason and Trustees
Dave Bush and Amy Bresslour were on-hand to make the
awards to teachers. “We value and appreciate the work you
do every day to challenge every student to reach higher,”
said Eric Aasness as he thanked teachers.
The Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization supporting all Highline Public Schools. With
a mission to develop community resources to help all HPS
students succeed, the Foundation funds academic
achievement, classroom innovation, scholarships, and the
arts. Thanks to the generous support of local individuals,
businesses, and foundations, more than $370,000 has been
distributed to date. “We are a growing organization with a
commitment to help you as teachers do what you do best –
inspire student learning,” said Sandra Eliason. “Keep up
the good work!"
