National School Lunch Week includes
Celebrity Servers! |
 |
 |
|
|
Linda
Bundy, Marvista lunchroom helper, and Jana Wilbur,
Marvista lunchroom aide, with Superintendent John
Welch are ready to serve lunch. |
|
This past week our Nutrition Services staff helped
students celebrate National School Lunch Week. This year’s
theme was "Vote for School Lunch"! The “election” gave
students a chance to select and elect their favorite
school lunch from a list of five entrée choices that
research has shown are most popular. The five choices were
characterized into actual candidates and campaigned for
votes across the country.
The Highline promotion included:
-
Poster displays of the 5 candidates with balloons.
-
A "polling station" for students to vote for their
favorite school lunch on paper ballots during the lunch
hour.
-
A "Vote for School Lunch" stamp for each student
participating in the election.
-
Hosting "celebrity lunch servers" to get students
excited about the campaign and to celebrate school
lunch.

"This promotion was a fun way to get kids aware and
involved in the voting process," commented Nutrition
Services Manager Brianna Smith. She went on to say, "At
the same time, the campaign delivered some important
messages about the National School Lunch Program and
emphasized that school lunches can be a child’s favorite
and be nutritiously prepared at the same time!"
