Work at the new Parkside Elementary is progressing on schedule. Much of the site work around the building and fields has been completed with installation of drainage, irrigation, and hydro-seeding. The west slope, which has been cleared, is almost park-like and promises to be an asset to the entire neighborhood. It will soon be replanted with native species to create a nature walk for the students.
Project Manager Rick Stevenson noted, "The woodland views from the library and the classrooms are really quite dramatic. When complete, Parkside promises to be one of the more beautiful schools in the district."
Both the activities wing, which includes the gym, multi-purpose room, kitchen, stage, kindergarten, music, and administration areas and the academic wing have been dry-walled - with paint and wall-coverings to follow shortly. Exterior windows and doors are being installed.
Visitors to the site will note the asphalt to the parking, play areas, and walking paths is now installed. Concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks are in place as well.
In other construction news...the demolition and abatement work for the replacement of McMicken Heights Elementary is complete. Construction Enterprises & Contractors, Inc. (CE&C) is expected to be on-site in November. CE&C has worked with the district previously in the noise mitigation for Pacific Middle School.
