Wanted
Bow Lake Elementary wants someone to fix their field!!!! About ¼ of the field is soaked in water. When people run on that ¼ of mud they’ll slip and get really wet. Those people who slip are wet for the rest of the day. It’s no fun to play in the mud! We NEED help!!!!!!!!!!!
A: Hi Rebekka,
Thank you for your letter about the Bow Lake play field. Your description gave all of us a good mental picture of what students experience during recess.
We talked with our Facilities Department and here is what they said: The new fields need to be aerated in order to drain properly. We have recently purchased new equipment for field aeration. Aeration is accomplished by running the new equipment over the entire field much like mowing is done. Hundreds of small holes are punched through the sod that allows water to drain through the surface and not build up as it does now after a heavy rain. This will be required once every year or so to insure proper draining. Our Maintenance Department will schedule a time to aerate the Bow Lake field after the new equipment arrives – which is expected around the end of April.
In the meantime, it’s a good idea to play on the other end of the field so you stay dry and healthy.
Thanks again for letting us know your concern!
