Dave Cotlove and Mauricio Ayón were awarded Burien Community Leader Awards at a gala on Saturday, March 5. Both are part of Highline Public Schools Community Engagement team.

Mr. Cotlove received Burien's Educational Leadership award. He was nominated by Highline High School Principal Pat Dunn for his work in obtaining a grant from Social Venture Partners to train high school students to translate school notices for distribution to non-English-speaking parents. Mrs. Dunn also cited Mr. Cotlove's work on creating a Khmer language and culture school that fulfills world language credit requirements. |

The Burien Community Service Leader award went to Mr.
Ayón. As the school district's liaison to the Latino community, Mr. Ayón works with Spanish-speaking students and families to address school-related concerns. His work is aimed at improving student achievement and graduation rates for Latino students.
