Education:
Youth attending the New Start
Alternative Education Program earn academic credit while
suspended or expelled from high school. New Start youth
attending mainstream middle or high schools have improved school
attendance, decreased the number and length of school
suspensions, and improved their math and science grades.
Employment:
New Start provides employment
skills training, resume development classes, and job placement
for enrolled youth. Since 1999, more than 300 youth have
participated in work experience through New Start program
partnerships.
Community Improvement:
New Start was chosen by community
stakeholders as a "highest priority" program to be implemented
as part of the White Center Strategic Investment Plan. New Start
has an active community advisory committee and effective working
relationships with law enforcement, local businesses, community
groups, and other organizations serving youth and families. |
