About Us
The goal of Nutrition Services is to provide high quality, nutritious, cost-effective meals to all students in Highline Public Schools.
We serve approximately 3,000 breakfasts and 9,000 lunches each school day to Highline students. Fifty-seven percent of the enrolled student body qualify for free or reduced priced meals. There are a number of schools where over 60% of students served lunch qualify for free or reduced price meals thus qualifying the district for severe need funding under the United States Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs.
Research has shown that there is a crucial relationship between nutrition and health as well as better nutrition and learning. Highline participates in the USDA’s National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Snack, Summer Food Service and Commodity Distribution Programs. USDA regulations guide our programs. Monthly menus are planned by a Registered Dietitian to meet the USDA specifications based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In this section you can find a complete nutritional analysis of Highline food products as well as review procedures for students with food allergies or special dietary needs.
