Advanced Placement Environmental & Marine Science (APEMS) is an exciting college-level course taught at the Marine Technology Lab at Seahurst Beach.
This course is open to any student who wants to increase their understanding of the environment and accept the greater demands required by an introductory college-level
course. Students must have passed Integrated Science I, Integrated Science II, and 1 year of algebra, or equivalent courses with a B or above, or have a teacher
recommendation. This is an exciting course for a wide variety of students interested in working outdoors with nature and all aspects of science. Marine &

Upon successful completion, students receive Advanced Placement designation on their transcripts and are prepared to take the AP Environmental Science Exam to earn up to 5 science credits accepted at every four-year university in the country.
Mr. Weiss’ Academic Background:
- B.A. Environmental Planning & Earth Science
- University of California Santa Cruz
- Graduate Studies: Humboldt State University & University of Washington
Career Experience:
Mr. Weiss was an Alaska commercial salmon fisherman for 20 years and the owner & captain of a 58-foot vessel. He has scientific experience as a consultant to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Burien involving marine fish spawning habitat.
