Melba Eyler passed away at the age of 96 on May 2, 2005. Melba was employed as a secretary in the district’s administration office from 1960-1972. In 1972, she co-authored the book, The Many Roads to Highline, with her friend of many years, Evelyn Yeager.

Darrell Finley had a long and successful career as an elementary school principal. He was hired in 1969 as the assistant to the principal at Gregory Heights. He became a principal at Normandy Park/Marvista school in 1973, moving to Seahurst in 1982, Shorewood 1987, and on to Des Moines in 1990. Darrell retired in 1996. He passed away peacefully on June 22 surrounded by family.

Delores Lanksbury passed away on May 28. She was a lunchroom aide at Tyee, Gregory Heights, North Hill from 1979-1989 and returned September 1991 as a classified substitute in food services as well as the warehouse until 1995. She is fondly remembered for her love of children, so working in the lunchroom suited her perfectly.

George Long passed away on July 21. During his 29-year career as a union representative, George assisted many educators throughout the Renton and Highline Education Associations, as well as the faculty at the Bellevue and Highline Community Colleges.

Diane Moll passed peacefully at her home on Vashon Island on August 23 surrounded by family and friends. Diane was employed in 1970 as a receptionist/typist at the district’s administration office and remained there until 1988. She elected to substitute in 1989 until 1991. Her many friends will miss her vivacious smile and her kind and giving nature.

Kenneth Murray Myers, Highline High School teacher from 1978 until his retirement in 1995, passed away on September 5 at the age of 83. “Known as the Silver Fox to many of his former students, Kenn demonstrated tough love for all of his students, demanding their best in every chosen path. His love for teaching was known by all his colleagues, as he continued to teach as a substitute after his retirement.”
